FIRST-HAND REPORTS
Markus Friebe & Marcus Rauch
Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH,
Apprentices to become Machining Mechanics
Markus Friebe & Marcus Rauch
„Over the holidays we had quite a few internships at various companies, including Hirschvogel. The new Apprentice Training Center and its state-of-the-art machines impressed us at once. We became particularly interested in the apprentice training career to become a machining mechanic, which we are now undertaking. We really like the fact that we can work independently on the machines, and we greatly value the trust that the trainers place in us. If problems arise, we can turn to the more experienced apprentices for help and they always know how to provide rapid assistance. This results in a very friendly working environment between the apprentices and the trainers.”
Verena Schüller
Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH,
Combination Studies Student
Verena Schüller
„Right from my time at secondary school in Schongau I knew that the area of mathematics/science was my strong point, which is why I chose mathematics and physics as my major courses. After completing an internship in the area of mechatronics during the summer vacation and after hearing about the dual course of studies during an event held at my school, I immediately applied to Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH. I entered the first weeks of the apprenticeship with a very positive approach and was given a warm welcome at the Apprentice Training Center. Both the trainers and the other apprentices are very friendly, leading to a really good working environment. We learn a lot of new things very quickly and are actively supported by the trainers, apprentices and other employees. When I first went to the milling machine, I received full machine instructions. I can also go at any time to the trainers and other apprentices with questions, which they are all more than happy to answer in detail. Even though the combination studies I have opted for will certainly involve hard work and a lot of learning, I in no way regret my decision.”
Kai Ruge
Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH,
Master Craftsman
Kai Ruge
began his apprenticeship at Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH in Denklingen to become a tool and die mechanic in September 1998, which he then successfully completed in January 2002. Following this, he worked in the die shop in the area of turning. In fall 2005, he commenced part-time training to become a foreman in the area of metal. Thanks to the support of Hirschvogel, he was able to study full time for part 2 and thus complete the examination as early as November 2006. In February 2007, he commenced preparation for an assignment abroad at Hirschvogel Automotive Components in China, south of Shanghai. At our Chinese plant he was responsible for setting up the entire area of tool- and diemaking and tool preparation. Following his return to Denklingen in February 2010, he took over the role as master craftsman for tool preparation in the die shop. Here, around 40 employees ensure that 30 forging units are supplied on time with ready-to-use tools.
„I really enjoy working at the Hirschvogel Automotive Group, as dedicated employees have the opportunity to undergo personal and professional development. The outstanding level of collaboration and support provided by more experienced colleagues, even across great distances, is something you can always rely on, and it functions excellently with the aid of modern facilities.”
Gisela Quintenz
Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH,
Head of Profit/Production Center 1
Gisela Quintenz
came to Hirschvogel in 2005 as a development engineer for transmission systems. She became Head of Profit Center 1 in 2009. She is responsible for the production of forged parts, i. e. observing production costs, deadlines and quality on 25 forging units with approx. 240 employees.
„I am happiest when I am in the middle of the shop floor and everything is running at full throttle. It was always my wish to work in production, but I spent the first 15 years of my career as a development engineer and had almost given up my production dream. But now I have been given the opportunity to make this dream a reality, and it is almost always highly enjoyable! What makes me particularly glad on a day-to-day basis is the unbelievable motivation and drive of my employees as well as the trust they place in me.”
Peter Petzoldt
Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH,
Head of Production Profit Center 2
Peter Petzoldt
„I found out about Hirschvogel towards the end of my studies at the TU München during the IKOM. From this contact I went on to do my degree dissertation in the area of tool- and diemaking at Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH. In 2006, I entered professional life as a Product Development Engineer at Hirschvogel and was responsible for new parts and developments relating to warm forging. Since the beginning of 2010, I have been Head of Production in Profit Center 2 – here, approximately 130 employees produce over 30 million forged parts a year.
The pleasant working environment within the whole Group encourages individual commitment across all areas. With state-of-the-art production facilities and our highly motivated employees, we are one of the top global players among the forging companies, and we are continually working on ways to progress even further.”
Tobias Kettner
Hirschvogel Holding GmbH,
Software Developer
Tobias Kettner
„I worked in IT at Hirschvogel during the school vacations prior to my apprenticeship to become an IT specialist for application development, which I began in 1997. During this time I enjoyed the good working atmosphere at Hirschvogel and above all in the IT department. Following my apprenticeship, I decided to go back and sit my higher school certificate (Abitur). This allowed me to then begin my studies in computer science at the University of Augsburg. During my studies, I had the opportunity to continue working as a student trainee at Hirschvogel. This enabled me to keep up with the many changes taking place in the IT world at the company. Furthermore, I was also able to write my degree dissertation on a current topic here. It was thus a natural progression for me to plan my professional future at Hirschvogel, and I am now a software developer in the SAP environment. Due to the continuous support and assistance from colleagues as well as the entire Hirschvogel company, I would choose this career path again without hesitation. I am already looking forward to continuing my work in the ever growing Hirschvogel family.”

Following this, he resumed his work as Director of Product Development at Hirschvogel Komponenten GmbH. „What I particularly like at Hirschvogel is the way the employees identify with the family enterprise. Hirschvogel supports the dedication and performance of its employees, enabling everyone to further themselves both personally and professionally and thus to contribute to the success of the company. The 18 months spent in the US were enriching for me at a professional and private level. I am confident that I will continue to profit from this opportunity that Hirschvogel provided me with.”
